Who I Am + Why I Do This

Hi, I’m Kat Thompson. I’m a Certified Fertility Doula, Pregnancy & Infant Loss Specialist, and Full Spectrum Birth Worker.
My path to doula work started after my own traumatic birth and 6.5 years of unexplained infertility. I’ve walked the silent, confusing, and lonely roads—and I’m here to walk beside you, so you don’t have to go it alone.
I’m trained and certified across birth, loss, postpartum, VBAC, infant sleep, trauma support, and inclusive wellness practices. My clients include solo parents, couples, LGBTQ+ families, and folks navigating neurodivergence—because support should never come with conditions.
When I’m not working with clients, I’m still helping others—I’ve spent 25 years as an Executive Assistant, and I’m always learning something new to better care for the people I serve.
What They’re Saying
I humbly acknowledge that I reside and operate on Treaty 7 territory—the traditional and ancestral lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations), the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley). This land is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland.
I recognize and honour the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have lived on and cared for these lands for generations. I express my gratitude to the Traditional Knowledge Keepers, Elders—past and present—and the ongoing resilience of Indigenous communities.
As part of my commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, I strive to educate myself, listen, and support Indigenous voices in my work. This includes advocating for culturally respectful care, acknowledging intergenerational trauma, and fostering safe, inclusive spaces for Indigenous families on their fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys.

At Embracing the Journey, I welcome and celebrate all individuals, relationships, and family structures. I am a proud ally of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and support individuals in non-traditional relationships, diverse family-building paths, and unique parenting experiences.
I am committed to providing a safe, affirming, and judgment-free space for all who seek support—regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship structure, cultural background, or reproductive journey.
Your path is uniquely yours, and I am here to walk beside you with compassion, knowledge, and respect.
